Tonight the Royals have Brayan Pena in their lineup. You might remember
him, used to be a Brave. Backup catcher, hitting .186 on the season,
.240 for his career, 8 career home runs in 169 career games.

They have him in their lineup as their DESIGNATED HITTER.

I think the lineup card should have that word, hitter, in quotation marks.

They also have Gregor Blanco, Wilson Betemit and Kyle Davies in the
lineup. It really is a travesty that his his upcoming nontender status
has probably kept Francoeur from his destiny of joining this team.

The braves are doing what they can to keep Francoeur in NY. Giving him
a hit and a run tonight should help some.

And it appears that the spirit of Joe Simpson has infiltrated the ESPN
crew tonight. They have praised Prado's routine groundout to first in
the first like it was Bobby Thompson because it not only knocked in a
run but also moved a runner to third, a very productive out.

and I'm puzzled by the fact that I can see the game on ESPN since I
thought it would be blacked out. maybe there's some special rule about
Monday night baseball.

Mmmm...I've had SNY on, but just checked, and here, 75 miles from NY,
ESPN has the game also.

And just in time!

J-Hey scoring from 1st on a routine single reminded me of Furcal as a
rookie. Great jump, and great slide!

The most amusing ex-Brave (to me at least) remains Tony Pena Jr., who
has since been converted to a pitcher, traded by Kansas City to San
Francisco (I missed that trade) and this year has posted 59 Ks in 74.2
innings with an ERA of 4.22. He actually appeared to be doing pretty
well in his minor league pitching with the Royals, but hasn't done as
well following his trade and appearances with the Fresno Beavers (the
park factor is Fresno, I'm unaware).

Thanks, I'd missed that trade too. In fact, the whole reason I looked at
that boxscore last night is that I assumed the Pena in question was Tony
(who would have really been an awesome choice as a DH). I'd forgotten
about Brayan.

And now Mike Hessman comes to bat for the Mets. Anyone seen Ryan
Langerhans, Pete Orr or Scott Thorman lately?

I had seen Langerhans, and I'd correctly identified that it was with
the (#6org) M's before I looked it up.

In a game where Francoeur threw out a runner to catcher Henry Blanco.

Langerhans is still kicking around for Seattle, and Nick Green is with
the Blue Jays (with DeWayne Wise). And, of coure, let's not forget our
recent sighting of Willie Harris with the Nats. There are a whole slew
of stinky ex-Braves still kicking around the majors.

Oh, Brent Lillibridge spells Beckham in Chicago when he can't
go/sucks.

Had no idea he was still around. Looks like he has an odd, small-sample
stat line going.

Even more amusing: for his first two at-bats, the walk-up music for
Kelly Johnson was "It's Raining Men."

The announcers are speculating that LaRoche bribed the PA system
people.
